It Was Me

It was me, I'm the one for whom you cried
It was me, I'm the one for whom you died
It was me, the one that you were fighting for
It was me, for whom you opened up the door

It was me, as you walked through hopless pain
It was me, to let my life be less insane
It was me, when you never say the light
It was me, so now that I might be alright

Now I owe my life to you
It was me
It was me
It was me

Someone, now somehwhere, is looking at me
Let them say
It was me
You fought for me
And now I'm free

It was me, now and all those many years
It was me, for whom you cried so many tears
It was me, when you took your chosen name
It was me, so someday I might do the same

It was me, so may dangers all around
It was me, for whom you dared to make the sound
Of the truth, and for that you bear the scars
It was me, so now that I might reach the stars

Now I owe my life to you
It was me
It was me
It was me

Someone, now somehwhere, is looking at me
Let them say
It was me
You fought for me
And now I'm free

In honor of those who have walked openly in the light
In memory of those who have suffered the violence of fear and oppression
